She's the Kind of Girl that Doesn't Wear a Purse - Butte Montana Photographers

She’s the kind of girl that doesn’t wear a purse.

butte montana photographers

Her phone is always in her pocket.

The kind of girl people call "Rocky."

You’ll see her at Canyon Ferry Lake, wearing her Tivo's, drinking coffee, eating milk duds.

A girl that loves huckleberry pie.

She loves water sports: wave running, swimming, boating and tubing.

Yet she sometimes binge watches TV.

And surprisingly?

She can knit a mean scarf.

She has a quiet confidence when she walks in the door.

And when you meet her, you get the feeling that she must play sports.

montana sr pictures

She just seems like the type, but you’re not sure why.

And play sports she does, including helping her team get 2nd in State Basketball.

Her eyes are a color even Sherwin Williams doesn’t have a paint swatch for.

A light teal that almost looks neon when the light hits it from the side.

A shade of blue-green that seems only possible with colored contacts.

They’re the color of the peeling paint on my vintage door,

They’re the color of the Spring scarf she wears.

Her eyes are a color so surprising, that you want to say something to her,

but you don’t, because she must get that a lot.

Flour Power = Epic photos & Massive Cleanup, but well, well worth it.

I'm still reeling from the fact that people, actual human beings, can jump, dance, twist, turn like this!

Maybe it's due to my complete lack of coordination and flexibility.

Or that I took dance for a total of one year in kindergarten and never really caught on,

And gymnastics class?

Ha. I tried, I really did, but sideways cartwheels with my legs only half of the way up were about as far as I got.

So these ladies?

What they can do?

To me, it's pure magic. Like something you'd see at Cirque Du Soleil in Vegas, that doesn't really even seem real.

So props to the Opening Act of Montana Dance Works, you girls are amazing!

Best of the Best - Class of 2015 Senior Tribute!

Trekking through musty floors of decrepit (albeit beautiful) buildings.

Sitting in a cloud of bazziolions of bumble bees.

Spewing records on Main Street - then blasting the tunes.

Wrapping in American Flags (a blanket version, ofcourse!)

Because these seniors?

Are bold, brilliant, and full of potential.

A tribute to my seniors I had the chance to go on adventures with this year for their senior portraits!

CONGRATS ladies and gentlemen!

Like a Royal European Princess - Introducing Senior Model Mackenzie Collins

She looks like a European princess.

butte mt photographers

Her almond-shaped sapphire eyes and royal ruby lips complimented with a crown of plum and tangerine tulips.

Her hair in tousled waves.

Her classic top and the lighting fitting of a Rembrandt painting hanging on the walls of her castle.

Her smile like Mona Lisa,

typical of the 1600’s it looks like it transported from - for they couldn’t hold a smile long enough to be painted.

But you won’t see this modern-day senior kept up in her castle, instead you’ll see her playing soccer, eating Snickers and volunteering.

The top she’s wearing from Mirror Mirror is versatile enough to wear with weathered jeans and comfy tennis shoes,

or to be dressed up with heels and some vintage-inspired jewelry. You can layer it up with a lacy tank underneath like Mackenzie did.

Besides Mackenzie’s flirty wavy hair, there’s one other thing I’m a bit jealous of.

Those eyelashes.

These are not extensions people,

those puppies are REAL,

and they only make her cobalt eyes look even bigger.

Modern Vintage Portraits in a Cryptic Room - Introducing High School Senior Model 2016 Rylie Gonzalez

Rylie’s infectious smile and laughing eyes illuminate

the somber room,

the vacated bedchamber of the scandalous babyselller Gertrutde Pitkanen.

butte mt photographers

Immediately when Rylie strutted into the studio with this modern outfit, vintage looking necklace and that bright magenta hair, I knew we had to go downstairs into the Gerty room.

montana senior pictures

Her black knit top, and striped black and white shirt are classics with a twist, and that necklace was a perfect addition to tie it all in with a room that has mainly been untouched. (You can get  the outfit at Mirror Mirror Boutique!)

The elaborate wallpaper wasn’t found until the hoarder's delight of past tenants hodgepodge was purged to make room for new heater installation.

The room? Is now akin to a metal scrapyard with tubes and parts of heaters in our basement of the Casey Block.

butte montana photographer

This basement apartment was likely Gertrude Pitkanen’s bedroom as researched by Richard Gibson.

Gertrude is notorious for selling babies on the black market - selling newborns that were literally just minutes old to families wanting a child, from parents that wanted no paper trail left (forged birth certificates made it so that nobody could find out the biological parents. Want more? Read the New York Time’s most recent article in April here .)

And Rylie’s giant smile and big brown eyes with those ornate patterns and squiggles (for lack of better terminology) add elements

of sweetness,

of innocence,

of an old-fashioned soul,

with a bright red, black and white twist of modern-day edginess.

I can’t help but wonder, who has stood in this room before?

senior pictures butte

Were the rooms filled with laughter and joy, or misery and tears?

Did the renters of this place love the hubbub of Granite Street, or was it  a downstairs dungeon they longed to escape?

Were there 5x7 daguerreotype family photos in oval-shaped frames hung with care against these walls, or was it a lonely emptiness?

These walls are filled with portrait sessions like Rylie’s - there’s laughter, fascination, and best of all?

A backdrop you could never buy,

senior portraits butte

with a history you could never fake.

Snow White VS the Evil Queen - a themed senior portrait session in Butte, Montana

butte mt photographers

Good vs. evil never looked so good!

montana senior pictures

Ruby lips, a rose-red flower crown and a classic red apple were enough to make Ellie's Snow White senior portrait session stunning - without a ton of "fluff." We added the white dove feathers in a few to add a little more sweet innocence ;)

Pair that with having Halie pop on a black raven shrug at the end of the 50's senior model shoot, and what a CONTRAST!

Good vs. Evil

senior pictures butte

The little devil vs. angel voices sitting on your shoulder.

Heaven vs. Hell.

The contrast is endless - except for one thing. THOSE RED LIPS! And feathers :) Who doesn't love feathers?

Wait a minute...are these your NORMAL senior sessions?

photographers in butte

No - no they aren't. These are add-on themed sessions that many of our senior models participate in! So parents don't worry - when you bring your daughter or son in for senior photos, I wont' make them into an evil queen...unless you want that.

And if you do want that?

That can certainly be arranged (said in my Mr. Burns voice while I click my fingers together).
